Trendon Watford of the Brooklyn Nets recently managed to land himself in a lot of trouble. The 24-year-old forward got ejected from the game against the Indiana Pacers after a scuffle with two Pacers players. It wasn’t a good look for Trend0n as he cost his team the win through his actions.
Even so, this has put more eyes on him than ever before. And if you’re one of the fans who’s wondering about Watford’s roots, background, and religion, you’ve come to the right place!
Where is Trendon Watford from? What’s the Nets star’s nationality?
The Brooklyn forward is actually a country boy! Yes, Trendon Watford calls Alabama his sweet home. And it was at Mountain Brook High School in Alabama that Trendon became a 5-star recruit. Growing up, he liked Mathematics and English since those were his strong suits academically.
Being from Alabama means Watford is an American by nationality. Sadly, we don’t have much to go on when it comes to his ethnicity. However, the 5-star prospect’s journey through high school and college is something we know a good deal about.

You see, Trendon didn’t put too much stock into his recruitment, since he wanted to focus on his final high school season. “I haven’t been all in with my recruitment with my own season going on, but shortly after my season is over I may go ahead and decide,” he said in his blog.
And he lived up to his promise once it was time to choose a college. He ended up picking the LSU Tigers to play college ball. So let’s see how that went for him.
Which college did Trendon Watford attend?
“This was the hardest decision I’ve ever made in my life. Memphis, Indiana, and Alabama were great options too, but, at the end of the day, I just had a close relationship with Coach Wade and the staff there. They really prioritized me from day one and that was what ultimately did it for me. It feels like home and I know that this is the place that I’m supposed to be at.” This was what Trendon said in his blog about his decision to join the LSU Tigers.
And judging from his stats for the Tigers, he made the right call. Even though both his seasons for them were marred by the COVID-19 pandemic, the world learned about the potential he had through his performances for LSU. He finished both his seasons in the top 20 for scorers in the SEC. And we saw what a monster he was when it came to defensive boards after he finished at the top in the SEC in both seasons.
After such success, it’s no surprise that Trendon hired an agent and declared for the 2021 NBA Draft. However, things didn’t pan out for the young forward back then. During that dark time for him, his faith was all he had to fall back upon. And it helped him stay positive and trudge forward despite the setback.
Is Trendon Watford religious?
Trendon Watford comes from a family of believers. While it’s not clear exactly what religion they ascribe to, the Watford family puts a lot of emphasis on religion. In fact, according to Belinda Watford, Trendon’s mother, the Nets forward prays before every game!

And Belinda says she’s grateful for their faith, helping to keep her son grounded and focused amid all the attention and fame. “We just thank God for it. We know God has blessed them with this talent and thank God for it,” she said about her sons and the God-given talent they have.
At the end of the day, despite his recent lapse in judgment, Trendon is just a country boy trying to do right by his family by making it in the NBA. And we’re sure he’ll think twice before kicking off any more brawls in the future. Lest his mother should find out!
