What Is the ‘Champions Retreat Golf Club’ at Augusta National? History, Significance & Other Details About ANWA Venue Revealed

Just like that, we are in the midst of another solid and skilled performance at Augusta National. Sure, the Masters Tournament is still a little ahead of us, but the Augusta National Women’s Amateur is giving us its solid performances. While Megha Ganne’s stunning -9 score is awe-inspiring, there’s something else that is vying for our attention. And it’s the Champions Retreat Golf Club. So, what exactly is it?

Located just outside Augusta, Champions Retreat hosts the first two rounds of the tournament. Additionally, the players who make the 36-hole cut will advance to compete in the final round at Augusta National. But there’s something even more interesting about Champions Retreat. Yes, it has everything to do with the people behind it. Champions Retreat Golf Club, true to its name, was designed by three of the greatest golfers in history: Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player! Gave you the goosebumps? Even that sounds amazing. However, another interesting thing about the venue is its unusual layout. It features three nine-hole courses: The Island, designed by Palmer; The Bluff, created by Nicklaus; and The Creek, attributed to Player.

Interestingly, all of these three legendary players did not start working at Champions Retreat at the same time. It started with Gary Player. However, by the time the 1999 Champions Dinner happened, he recruited fellow golf legends, Nicklaus and Palmer.
