Golf is known to be an individual battle. But that does not mean no people are rooting for you. Behind every successful player, there’s a support system, a team that keeps them grounded, motivated, and ready to take on the pressure of professional golf. For Jackson Suber, the Tampa, Florida native, that support comes from none other than his family and caddie. The golfer clinched his PGA Tour card by finishing in the top 30 at the 2024 Korn Ferry Tour. However, a surprise twist got him into the spotlight: he was named Jon Rahm’s replacement for the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2.
Before making his mark on the professional circuit, Suber trained and honed his skills at the University of Mississippi, where he pursued a degree in Accountancy. His college golf career was impressive right from the start, and he made his collegiate debut at the Ocean Course Invitational with a runner-up finish, firing rounds of 75 and 67. Fast forward to 2025, and he’s proving he can compete at the highest level.
His recent performances have been a mixed bag. Missing the cut at The PLAYERS Championship and the Valspar Championship, he soon bounced back with a stellar third-place finish at the Texas Children’s Houston Open at Memorial Park Golf Course. Clearly, he’s got the game. But who’s been helping him along the way?
Jackson Suber’s Family
While golf is often described as a lonely sport, Suber has never been alone in his journey in the true sense. His parents, Jack and Elayne Suber, have been his biggest supporters right from the start.
Golf runs deep in the Suber family. Not necessarily in a professional sense, but in their commitment to their son’s career. His parents both attended the University of Florida, and while they didn’t pursue professional golf themselves, they’ve been by his side at every step, being his biggest cheerleaders and providing a grounding presence during the inevitable struggles of a professional career.
When Suber played in the 2024 U.S. Open at Pinehurst No. 2, after securing a rather late entry as an alternate, his father, Jack, summed up what it meant to the family. “It was awesome having ‘Big Daddy’ on the bags up here,” Jack said, joking about their connection with Suber’s caddie, Ryan Orr. His mother, Elayne, has been just as invested, supporting from the sidelines and helping maintain the kind of stability a golfer needs when life on tour gets hectic.
Unlike some sports families that bask in the limelight, the Subers clearly prefer to stay behind the scenes. There’s little public information about them, but those close to Jackson know they’ve been present at almost every major tournament he’s played in.
As for siblings? That remains a mystery. Suber has never shared much about having brothers or sisters, when interviewed or on his social media, which suggests he either doesn’t have any or prefers to keep them out of the public eye. Regardless, the support from his family is very evident in his steady rise through the ranks.
Suber, A Lone Wolf?
For many golfers, a partner serves as an important emotional anchor. But Jackson Suber? He’s currently flying solo. Unlike some of his peers on the PGA Tour who often post pictures with their wives or girlfriends, Suber seems to prefer keeping things strictly about golf. There’s a lack of any dating rumors, or Instagram hints, or public appearances with a significant other. Looks like he’s laser-focused on his career, and given his rapid ascent, it’s paying off!
With no children of his own and no signs of settling down just yet, Suber appears to be all-in on golf. His journey is still in its early stages, and for now, the fairways and greens are his main priority.
Ryan Orr: The Caddie Who’s Walked the Same Path
In golf, a caddie is more than just a guy who carries the bag. A good caddie is a strategist, a mental coach, and sometimes even a therapist, helping a player stay focused and confident under pressure. For Jackson Suber, that person is Ryan Orr, fortunately a former golfer who understands what it takes to compete at the highest level.
Orr played at the University of Florida from 2013 to 2017, making a name for himself in college golf. After graduation, he took his talents to the PGA Tour Latinoamérica and, later, played on the Canadian Tour. But professional golf is brutal, and like so many talented players, Orr struggled with the financial demands of life on the mini-tours. Eventually, he ran out of money and had to step away from playing full-time. That’s when caddying entered the picture!
In December 2023, Suber needed someone he could trust on the bag for a Korn Ferry Tour event in the Bahamas. Orr, having known Suber from their time playing on the Canadian Tour, volunteered. What started as a temporary arrangement quickly became something more. By the time Suber made it into the 2024 U.S. Open, Orr was the obvious choice to help him out. And for a young player stepping onto one of golf’s biggest stages, having a caddie who’s been through the ups and downs of professional golf is undeniably invaluable.
Suber himself acknowledged how much Orr helped during that high-pressure week at Pinehurst: “Him being a former player and a determined winner in college at an SEC school like Florida just brought a lot of great perspective out there,” Suber said. “I really trusted him when I was in between stuff. He would just give me insight when I didn’t know what my gut was telling me.” And it worked. Suber made the cut, a remarkable achievement for a young player in his first major.
For Orr, caddying has been a second chance at professional golf—not as a player, but as someone helping a rising star find his way. Though he’s set to take a full-time job in the medical-device industry, he’s made it clear that he’s always available when Suber needs him. “If he needs a guy here or there, I’d be glad to help him out,” Orr said. “Maybe down the line, we might pair back up together.”
Golf careers aren’t built overnight, and surely never alone. For Jackson Suber, having the right people in his corner—his parents, who have been there since day one, and a caddie who knows what it’s like to chase a dream—has been instrumental in his growth. As he continues to push toward establishing himself on the PGA Tour, he has something that many young golfers lack: a support system that genuinely believes in him. And in a sport where confidence is everything, that could make all the difference.
The next time you see Jackson Suber tee it up, know this—it’s not just him against the course. It’s his family, his caddie, and everyone who has helped him get to this point. And with that kind of backing, the sky’s the limit.
