Who Are Kiya Johnson’s Parents? Carl And Kyesha? All About LSU Gymnasts’ Mom, Dad, And Family

“My parents sacrificed so much for me to get to where I am today, and that inspires me every day to work as hard as I can to accomplish my goals and make them proud!” We don’t know what particular goals Kiya Johnson has. Whatever she has tried to achieve, she has succeeded. Being an All-around Bronze winner in the 2019 Nastia Liukin Cup is no easy feat. But Kiya has always shown promise, hasn’t she?

She won gold medals in the all-around, vault, and beam in the junior division of the 2015 Nastia Liukin Cup. But Kiya Johnson is not just an LSU gymnast. She is also a production assistant for ESPN. She started her journey as a media correspondent in 2024. Did you know she was also an assistant coach to the Southern Connecticut State University gymnastics team?

To say she is talented would be an understatement. She is a brilliant human being. But as she acknowledges, her brilliance is a result of how her parents raised her. Let’s get to know the wonderful parents of Kiya.

Who is Kiya Johnson’s father?

Kiya’s father is Carl Johnson. You probably won’t get to know much about him because he is such a low-key person; there’s practically no digital footprint of him over the internet. Believe us when we say we had to do a lot of digging to learn something about the man who is always seen with the brightest and fullest smile across his face.

Well, as per his LinkedIn profile, Kiya’s father is a graduate of Texas A&M University. He has done a bachelor’s and master’s from the same college, completing his degree in 2007. His work experience extends over 25 years, although he has moved across organizations often. His longest stint after college was for Fairlife, a food and beverage company.

But don’t let that fool you; he is a skilled employee. His designation at his current place of employment is Director of National Accounts. He is with FFP, another food and beverage manufacturing company. It seems like he is a man of composure and stability, not drawing attention per se but providing the Johnsons with warmth and safety, making sure his family is provided for. But who is looking after him? Let’s get introduced to Mrs. Johnson then.

Who is Kiya’s mother?

Mrs. Johnson, we mean Kyesha, is the mother of Kiya and Kacy. Unfortunately, we couldn’t find much about Kiya’s mother. But we did get to know from the 23-year-old LSU gymnast that her mom used to play basketball in college. Not only that, Kyesha even played volleyball during her younger days. I guess now we know where Kiya Johnson gets her athlete genes.

Kyesha does have an Instagram account, showing her inclination to stay connected digitally with her peers and enjoy social media. However, her account is private. We do see her in some of Kiya’s Instagram photos. The whole family often gets together to celebrate the little things, and Kiya, as the responsible big sister of the family, makes sure it’s captured in her Instagram collection.

Being such an impressive person takes a lot of parenting effort. Or maybe Kiya was just a natural. Her childhood could give us a window into how she became this magnificent star.

Where did Kiya Johnson grow up?

Born in Dallas, Texas, on February 27, 2002, Kiya was brought up in Coppell. Her gymnastics journey began long before she even learned to read. At the age of 2, she was an energetic soul who loved flipping around the house. That was the cue her parents needed to get her enlisted in gymnastics class. But even they probably didn’t know she would one day become the NCAA Champion.

Her younger sister, Kacy, is also a gymnast, mind you. Chances are that another NCAA champion is being raised. Kiya went to Coppell High School, a public school where she was an excellent student, although her focus was always on science or history. During her school days, she went to the Texas Dreams Gymnastics Center to sharpen her skills.

For Kiya, the bond and feeling of family are sacred. In case it seems difficult to see that, no further than her college, LSU. She chose it because of “the family atmosphere and culture of the team. It felt like home as soon as I stepped on campus.” – her own words. Injury couldn’t stop her from performing in what would be her final year with LSU. That’s the pull of family.
