Pat Spencer’s journey has been rather unique, to say the least. The Golden State Warriors star wasn’t a college basketball star or an overseas prodigy. He wasn’t even playing basketball regularly. Yes! you heard it correctly. Spencer was too busy etching his name as one of the greatest players in the college lacrosse community. The Warriors star suited up for Loyola University and had a stellar four-year stint for the Greyhounds. So much so that Spencer even won the prestigious Tewaaraton Award, the lacrosse equivalent to the Heisman Trophy during his senior year in 2019. He was then selected as the No. 1 pick in the inaugural 2019 Lacrosse League Draft. But with whose support he came all the way?
He dominated the field for four more years before he decided to make a switch to the hardwood. Spencer still held one year of college eligibility remaining and, sure enough, he made good use of it! He transferred to suit up for Northwestern and follow his true calling: basketball. Although he hadn’t hooped during his college career, Spencer had a strong background on the court. Well, his maiden year at the Windy City was enough for him to earn a two-way contract with the Warriors. But one thing that has remained constant through lacrosse and basketball has been his parents. They’ve always had Spencer’s back. But who are his parents?
Who are Pat Spencer’s parents?
Growing up in Baltimore, Maryland with his parents Bruce Spencer and Donna Spencer, Pat started showing signs of being a prodigy at a very small age. Pat Spencer’s attraction toward sports started way quicker than other boys. “When Pat was little, his coaches would tell me he sees things the other boys don’t see,” recalls his father Bruce. “He’s always been a selfless player who doesn’t care about numbers. He truly enjoys playing the game.” Well, he maintained that nature despite being under the spotlight throughout his school and college career.
His father has played a huge role in helping Pat not be affected by all the attention toward him. Bruce is also a Loyola University alumni, just like his son Pat, who followed in his footsteps. Moreover, Pat’s father completed his MBA from Loyola and is the proud owner of Walt Eger’s Service Center. Bruce has always backed his son, no matter what Pat has done in his life. He’s done so for all three of his sons who are all athletes in their rights. “We want Patrick to follow his dream. Donna and I both have his back. We think he is capable of pulling this off.” These were his father’s motivating words when Pat was making the switch from lacrosse to hooping.

Moreover, Bruce isn’t the only pillar in Pat’s life, his mother Donna is the other pillar. She’s also been right beside her son’s side and supported him throughout his journey. Well, she’s also a stable at Pat’s games and also at his brother Cam’s games. Yes! Pat isn’t the only baller in his family. Pat is the eldest of the three brothers, but Cam, his younger brother, is also a hooper. Cam also attended Loyola but played basketball for the Greyhounds, unlike his brother. Now, the younger Spencer suits up for the Memphis Grizzlies and their G League affiliate after inking a two-way deal.
Both Pat and Cam share a great bond and recently even achieved a lifelong dream of playing against each other in the NBA. In January, the Grizzlies visited the Bay Area to take on the Warriors. While it was a heavyweight clash, it was a special matchup for the Spencer family. Cam made his way onto the court to take on the Warriors and, more importantly, suit up against Pat. The two brothers not only shared a wholesome moment on the court, but also guarded each other on multiple occasions. To complete this family experience, their mother cheered them from the stands. Meanwhile, the rest of the family watched from Maryland.
What is the nationality of Bruce and Donna Spencer?
Pat Spencer started his journey at The Boys’ Latin School in Baltimore. Where he represented the school’s program for lacrosse as well as basketball. The school’s legendary lacrosse coach, Bob Shiver, tipped Pat to be a star in the making. So did the others, who watched Bruce and Donna’s son on the field. Both Bruce and Donna are Maryland natives and proud American Citizens just like their three sons. Thanks to Pat’s father, they introduced their sons to sports at an early age and supported them throughout their journey.
Bruce spotted Pat’s talent at an early age and urged him to play sports. Pat started playing as a quarterback aged just 7 and by the second game, he was starting as a center due to his unusual field vision. That’s something he has carried with him, from lacrosse to basketball. The late bloomer in the basketball world continues his impressive journey in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors. As Pat is helping the Bay Area team toward another championship and his first-ever.
