Is the young Scottish golfer poised to win his second DP World Tour title? Both seasoned players and up-and-coming talent are being closely watched as the tournament is held at Johannesburg’s Houghton Golf Club from March 6–9, 2025. With its huge prize fund and opportunity for players to demonstrate their skills, the Joburg Open, which was founded in 2007, has grown to become a major event on the Sunshine and European Tours.

The contest is fierce this year, with Shaun Norris of South Africa leading by four strokes after three rounds. One of the participants is Calum Hill, a golfer from Scotland whose career exemplifies talent and perseverance.

Who is Calum Hill? Exploring DP Tour winner’s background

Calum Hill was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland, on November 3, 1994. His father, Neil, helped him get started in golf at Aberdour Golf Club. As his skill developed, he was awarded a golf scholarship at Western New Mexico University in 2012. In addition to doing well in the course, Hill was a standout student in college, graduating with a degree in accounting. While working as the assistant coach for the university’s golf team, he continued his studies by earning an MBA.

Hill’s rise to prominence was quick once he turned pro in 2017. He entered the professional stage that year after winning the San Juan Open and the Arizona Open. His victory at the Cazoo Classic in August 2021 marked his European Tour debut and catapulted him into the top 100 of the Official World Golf Ranking. Hill remains an intimidating figure on the tour, known for his smart play and calm temperament.

Hill claims the three-man playoff to secure the European Tour’s Joburg Open Championship

On Sunday, Scottish golfer Calum Hill defeated South African opponents Jacques Kruyswijk and Shaun Norris to take the Joburg Open after making par on the second playoff hole. All three of the players parred the first playoff hole, par-4 18th, to return to the tee during the extra holes, which were played at Houghton Golf Club against a backdrop of thunder and lightning.

After striking his second shot into water from a fairway bunker, Norris, who had been leading by four shots overnight, lost the chance to compete. Hill then missed his birdie putt off the green and tapped in for par. To prolong the playoffs, Kruyswijk had to make a three-foot par putt, but he pushed it right.

Hill, who holds the No. 286 ranking, won his second European tour victory after winning the Cazoo Classic in 2021. He set the clubhouse target at 14 under with a score of 8 under 62. Kruyswijk (66), who was looking for his second win in three weeks after winning the Magical Kenya Open last month, entered the playoffs first, followed by Norris, who finished with a round of 70 after two birdies in the final three holes. Hill’s victory at the Joburg Open is evidence of both his commitment and the international character of golf, where top players from all over the world come to play. Supporters and teammates alike acknowledged as he raised the trophy that this young Scot’s journey is one to follow in the years to come.
