Who is Leon Edwards’ Brother Fabian Edwards? MMA Record, Age & More

Leon Edwards faced a surge of disappointment at UFC 304 as he lost his bout against Belal Muhammad. Not only did the loss break his winning streak, but it also took away the welterweight championship belt. And during these moments of distress, the former welterweight champion found support from his brother, Fabian Edwards.

Be it training, fighting, or awkward run-ins, one face has remained constant beside the welterweight champ. And he is none other than Fabian ‘The Assassin’ Edwards, the brother of UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards. Today, let’s shine some light on the Edwards brothers and see how far has the younger one come in the MMA realm.

Are Leon and Fabian Edwards related?

To answer the above question, yes, Leon Edwards and Fabian Edwards are indeed brothers. Fabian Edwards was born on March 24, 1993, in Kingston, Jamaica. The brothers, along with their family, moved to Birmingham, England, when they were young. As Leon Edwards was already making his name in the MMA world, Fabian Edwards took little time to follow in his brother’s footsteps.

During a conversation with ESPN back in 2023, ‘The Assassin’ said, “We were brought up to always have each other’s back. We came from a foreign country, so we only had each other. That was the mentality.” And it was ‘Rocky’ who pulled his brother out of the rut and psuhed him into the world of mixed martial arts.

Is Fabian Edwards an MMA fighter? Record and more

Fabian Edwards had a perfect record in his amateur career, with 10 fights and 10 wins. He made his professional debut in 2017, where he won his first match with a flying knee, which led to the start of an impressive 9-fight win streak. However, the streak would end against Costello van Steenis via a split decision in a competitive back-and-forth fight. This would be followed by another loss against Austin Vanderford.

‘The Assassin’ would bounce back after a year layoff with an impressive win against former UFC champ Lyoto Machida with a devastating left hook. He would go on to win his next two fights, securing a fight for the Bellator welterweight strap against Johnny Eblen at Bellator 299. He would come up short, as Eblen would finish Edwards in the third round via TKO. However, that wouldn’t be the end, as things heated up between Johnny Eblen and Leon Edwards after the fight.

Despite the loss, Fabian does not seem discouraged. The pair rematched at Bellator Champions Series, but that fight also ended with a loss for Edwards via unanimous decision. With a professional record of 13-4-0, ‘The Assassin’ is on a 1-fight losing streak. But he’s looking forward to following in his brother’s footsteps.

Fabian Edwards looks to follow Leon Edwards’ path

“Now it’s my turn.” The former UFC welterweight champion’s younger brother and training partner was truly impressed by the way ‘Rocky’ defeated Kamaru Usman at UFC 278. One kick to the head at a calculated moment, and ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ fell flat. Needless to say, the action motivated ‘The Assassin’ to earn a name for himself like that of his older brother.

He stood up for ‘Rocky’ when he was getting ready to face Belal Muhammad for the second time at UFC 304. The Palestinian welterweight champion claimed that Fabian Edwards gave him dirty looks prior to the bout. It just showed the world that Fabian Edwards always had his brother’s back.

Now, as ‘Rocky’ gets ready to fight Sean Brady at UFC London, his younger brother is preparing for his bout against Impa Kasanganay at the PFL 2025 World Tournament. This is indeed the golden chance for the Edwards brothers to overturn their 1-fight losing streaks, and redeem themselves with a victory.
