Folks, what makes NASCAR a great sport, the high-speed racing action? the history? the family legacies? Well, yes, all this too. But what truly makes it great is its ability to unite the whole of America. When ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ begins at the pre-race concert every weekend, there is a sense of togetherness. And the best thing is NASCAR tries to invite lesser-known American artists to have this honor. Like at the recent Las Vegas race, it was trucker and songwriter, Cali Tucker. And even for the upcoming Homestead Miami race, it’s a local artist/social media influencer.
She goes by the Instagram handle, ‘estefisaavy.’ Now for the folks who are on Instagram know who we are talking about. Over the last four years, she’s been all the rage on social media with 521K followers on Instagram and over 3 Million followers on TikTok. And even if you don’t use either of these platforms, her reels with comedy skits, keep popping up on YouTube or Facebook. Folks, her’s is an inspirational story. The content might be funny, but her persona and purpose online is to motivate her fans. To be a voice of the unheard. And even taking up this role of singing the national anthem at Homestead Miami has the same purpose.
She is a TikTok star who started producing funny, lifestyle, and beauty content online in March of 2020. The Covid wave really helped boost her popularity, with people having nothing much to do and TikTok getting widely popular. Saavedra was born in Ecuador, in South America, but her parents moved to the United States when she was just four years old. And currently, she stays in Orlando, Florida. So Homestead is basically her home track!
And she recently, through her Instagram account, revealed this news. There is this new trend started by beauty bloggers where they do GRWM videos. Which means Get Ready With Me. It basically is them dressing up in front of the camera, putting on makeup, showing their outfits to the fans, and then heading out. Saavedra, in a similar video, talked about this, she said, “I am going to be singing the national anthem on this Saturday at NASCAR.” This means that she will be singing the anthem at the Xfinity Series.
Also, this has been a long-time dream of hers. Apparently, Saavedra was at a Super Bowl game, and like NASCAR, they too play the national anthem. This is where she got the inspiration to do this someday. “Most of you know, I grew up un documented here in the United States. I was brought her at four years old from Ecuador. Went to elementary school, middle school, high school. I always loved singing. And I remember the first time seeing Super Bowl and saw someone singing the national anthem. And I was like I wanna do that. It’s been in my bucket list for many years. I’m not gonna lie. I am proud of myself. Because a girl who was born in Ecuador brought here by her parents who sacrificed everything. Grew up un documented is going to be singing the national anthem.”
And it’s not just to tick off a bucket list item, it’s also to motivate her fans. To take up challenges, prove the haters wrong. Further in the video, she said, “Another reason why I wanna do this is because someone really close to me once told me that I would never be a singer. I am too far to sing. I am singing the national anthem, this message is for anyone, who’s ever told them that they are not good enough to do something. Don’t let that stop you. I am so excited for this opportunity. If you wanna come see me or watch me, this Saturday at the Homestead Miami Speedway…I’m nervous, but I’m so excited.”
Homestead Miami is going to be a good race, first since Saavedra will be singing the anthem, and second, we could have another dark horse winner.
Who will win Homestead Miami?
NASCAR is heading to yet another intermediate track after the recent Las Vegas race! And it had one of the most unexpected winners. Josh Berry gave Wood Brothers Racing their first win of the season and his first Cup win. And this was no fluke. Berry was consistent since the beginning. He had a good qualifying, starting the race from P7. Finished 8th in both stages and finally took the lead for 18 laps before taking the checkered flag. And this was thanks to the tire compound used. We saw 32 lead changes among 13 drivers. So this made it a tire strategy battle with track position not being that important.
And at Homestead Miami, they are bringing the same tire. “Recently, Stu Grant, Goodyear’s general manager of global race tires, said, “We go to Homestead this week, which is a track that produces some of the best racing on the NASCAR circuit. Homestead has a high tire wear surface that leads to a couple factors that make for good racing. First, the high wear leads to more lap-time fall-off, meaning tire management comes into play and we see more ‘comers’ and ‘goers’ throughout the field over the course of a run. Teams will opt for four fresh Goodyear tires at nearly every pit stop, highlighting the critical role of pit crews. This combination ensures a competitive race for the teams and an exciting experience for the fans.”
Also, this is the same compound they used at Homestead in the fall race. Remember how Tyler Reddick drove from the back of the pack and took the checkered flag? This was thanks to the tire wear as well. And like Vegas, there too we saw 33 lead changes. The point is with this current intermediate racing product, it’s anyone’s race. Maybe a Legacy Motor Club car can win the race. John Hunter Nemechek has been running well this season. Or it could be Erik Jones. He started Vegas in P5. Maybe he could do the same and keep the position at Homestead. It would be interesting if a dark horse dominated the race.
