The value Ben Simmons brings to his new team goes beyond numbers. After the Nets bought out his contract in February, he was teamless for two days before signing with the Clippers for $1.08 million. After being sidelined for 7 games, his performance in their win against the Hawks really showcased that value. And on the eve of their home game against the Hornets, he’s announced his intention to play for his national team once again.
The Aussie guard had a blinder against Atlanta. While his numbers stood at just 2 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals, his influence went beyond metrics. His movement and decision-making in the Clippers’ 3rd quarter run was decisive. The Clippers went 35-8 in that quarter, which inspired a second half comeback for Lob City.
His intent to play for Australia in the 2028 LA Olympics is a message to the world. Injuries might’ve kept him shy of a fantastic legacy in the NBA, but he’s still ready to give it his all for his team. He’s just 28, and last represented Australia in the 2013 FIBA Oceania Championship. With the New Boomers appointing Wizards assistant coach Adam Caporn, he’s reinvigorated his belief in the nation down under to succeed with him in the squad.

“I’ve known [Adam Caporn] for a while, I’m happy for him,” Simmons said.“He’s a great coach and a great person. I’m looking forward to talking to him and getting connected — continue to build our relationship going into the next Olympics.” And of course, with the condition that he’s fit and fine till then. While he praises the coach, he gets an applaud from his teammate.
Kawhi Leonard full of praise after Ben Simmons’ performance
Simmons’ return to the side is huge for the Clippers. Not only does it bring in more quality and depth to an injury ridden lineup, it helps Simmons get back in form for the backend of the season. The Clippers are currently 8th in the West. They’re only 1.5 games away from 7th, but they got in-form Wolves and Warriors ahead of them, both with a 7-game win streak. Kawhi Leonard, of course, noticed Ben’s performance against the Hawks.
“Just to see what he can do for us in that second unit. With that small-ball lineup. He can push the pace, great passer, also can defend multiple positions. From the one through five. It will be great to see how we can mesh it all together,” said the Clippers’ forward after the game. Simmons is averaging 6.2 points, 6.6 assists, 5.1 rebounds, and 1.5 steals on 54.5% shooting from the field. He doesn’t have the same impact he once had during his All-Star playing days with the 76ers, but the Fresh Prince is still vital to the Clips, as the Klaw so outwardly agrees.

Ben Simmons might not be the most glorious player in today’s date, but his impact against Atlanta proved his worth to the Clippers. All Australia needs to do is get Ben into the national team, and watch him set the stage on fire.
