Alexis Ohanian’s life has all the makings of a Hollywood blockbuster. A young entrepreneur starts Reddit, turns it into an internet giant, makes big moves in the tech world, and then marries tennis legend Serena Williams—sounds like a script ready for the big screen. But the real question isn’t if there should be a movie on him. It’s who would play Ohanian? Turns out, he already has some picks in mind.
When asked who could step into his shoes for a biopic, Ohanian didn’t hesitate. He took to Instagram with a video, saying, “If I could have somebody young Alexis in a biopic, who would it be and why? I think Josh Radnor would have been the most obvious choice back when he was my age. Now he’s my age, so he doesn’t look like a young me, he looks like an older me. Young me, I don’t know, Timothée Chalamet? That’s not likely.”
Josh Radnor is best known for playing hopeless romantic Ted Mosby in How I Met Your Mother—a role that made him a household name. While he hasn’t been in the spotlight as much in recent years, Ohanian still thinks he would’ve been the perfect fit back in his younger days. Timothée Chalamet, on the other hand, is one of Hollywood’s biggest stars right now. The Oscar-nominated actor has wowed audiences in Call Me by Your Name, Dune, and Wonka, to name a few. While Ohanian jokes that casting Chalamet is a stretch, it’s clear he’s having fun with the idea.
Ohanian doubled down on his love for Radnor, adding, “If we could go back in time, Josh Radnor should have done it when he was in his 20s. But no one wanted to write the Reddit biopic back then because we were a fringe website and not worth $40 billion. Josh Radnor, you’re my guy. You’ll always be the celebrity I was told I looked the most like.”
The Reddit co-founder obviously isn’t the only one in the family with a story worthy of the big screen. In 2021, King Richard hit theaters, telling the story of Venus and Serena Williams’ rise to tennis superstardom through the eyes of their father, Richard Williams. The film won critical acclaim and even earned Will Smith an Oscar for his performance.
With King Richard setting the bar high, it’s no surprise that Ohanian has now started imagining what his own biopic might look like. His journey—from launching Reddit in a college dorm room to becoming a successful venture capitalist and a dedicated family man—definitely has all the elements of a great movie.
Speaking of films, movies have played a surprisingly big role in Ohanian and Williams’ relationship. How so?
Movies Played a Role in Alexis Ohanian and Serena Williams’ Love Story
Who knew that the way to Serena Williams’ heart would be Marvel movies? And that is exactly how her better half impressed her.
In an interview with ESPN, Williams revealed just how deep Ohanian’s Marvel knowledge is. “He started talking like about Iron Man and stuff and Marvel and I’m that’s how that’s the way to my heart. Like this wasn’t just a superficial like hey l’ve watched a few movies. This is like I have deeply studied the text and I have strong opinions about this lore,” Serena said.
Ohanian then chimed in, saying, “And I guess I passed the test so that the next day I texted her and I was like, hey look last night was fun. But I’m going to pick you up. We’re gonna spend the day together in Paris, and it’s just going to be us during dinner.”
With Reddit’s impact on the internet, Ohanian’s success as an entrepreneur, and his high-profile marriage to Serena Williams, a movie about his life wouldn’t be too far-fetched. And if it ever happens, he has already put his casting suggestions out there. Who do you think would be the perfect fit to play Alexis Ohanian?
