Yankees Announcer Reveals $66M Trade Move in Works as Blockbuster Deadline Deal Looms

Brian Cashman has made it clear: the Yankees are going all out at this trade deadline. They’ve reportedly narrowed down to two top talents they’ve been scouting—a $66 million phenom from the Arizona Diamondbacks or Ryan McMahon of the Colorado Rockies. Well, McMahon appears to have a swing tailor-made for Yankee Stadium, but it was the D-Backs’ star who was initially the Yankees’ primary target.

Yes, it’s Eugenio Suarez. After all, he’s on a historic tear this year, hitting .257 with 35 home runs, 85 RBIs, and a .928 OPS. For the Yankees, in order to reclaim the AL East crown and stay ahead in the race, getting a third baseman has been the team’s most pressing concern. Now, the longtime Spanish radio voice of the Yankees—Ricky Ricardo—has dropped an interesting trade proposal.

Let’s just say, it can reshape the entire Yankees’ roster. “There’s a proposal on the table…5 Yankees prospects, not Lombard, not Jones. 5 prospects, including Schlittler, to the Diamondbacks for Merrill Kelly, Eugenio Suarez, and Jalen Beeks,” journalist Ryan Garcia wrote on X, quoting Ricky Ricardo.

Well, apart from a third baseman, the Yankees are also in dire need of starters. Even Jake Elman from Fansided predicted the team to acquire D-Backs starter Merrill Kelly. In return, the Yankees could send Everson Pereira and Danny Watson.

The only concern is that almost all the clubs are eyeing Eugenio Suarez. Regardless, the Yankees would need an upgrade at the hot corner. But, as aggressively as they are targeting Suarez, what are the odds of him landing in the Bronx?

How likely is Suárez to end up with the Yankees?

Suarez has been leading the National League on the overall league’s home run leaderboard. He’s only trailing behind the Mariners star Cal Raleigh and Yankees’ star Aaron Judge. It’s his hitting that has led the Diamondbacks back up to a .500 record, and if he keeps playing this exceptionally, the Diamondbacks probably won’t want to trade him at all.

According to the renowned columnist Bob Nightengale, Suarez opened up about the reality of the trade and said. “We want to make it a hard decision for them (the front office)… I think we have a chance.’’

If Suarez’s performance keeps lifting the Diamondbacks, it’ll end up being bad news for the Yankees because then the D-backs may continue their push for the playoffs by keeping Suarez. Else, they would think about capitalizing on the seller’s market and investing in their future by trading him away.

It’s also worth noting even if Suarez gets traded, he would prefer landing with the Detroit Tigers than with the Yankees. “To finish where everything started, it would be cool. It would mean a lot to me,” he stated, as quoted by Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press on July 18.

After all, he began his MLB career with the Tigers in 2014. And now it seems, he’s very much interested in going back. With just a few days until the trade deadline, we’ll know more in the coming days.
